A few concepts to know

| Tenant | The workspace that groups your devices, entities and users. |
| Device | A physical or virtual source of data, identified by its serial number. |
| Input | A reading reported by a device, such as temperature. |
| Output | A channel used to control or send a value to a device. |
| Entity | A logical asset that connects inputs and outputs from devices. |
| Dashboard | A visual view of your data, built from widgets. |
| Workflow | Connected components that process data or perform actions. |
The distinction that matters most is between a device and an entity. A device is the hardware that reports numbers. An entity is the thing you actually care about — a room, a machine, a vehicle — assembled from readings that may come from several devices. Dashboards and history are built on entities, which is why mapping inputs is a required step rather than an optional one.
How data moves
A reading arrives from your device, is matched to a device input by name, and is then routed through the entity mappings you configured. Readings with no connected input can arrive without being stored as history — that single fact explains most “my data is missing” questions.
Where to start
Start with your first device. If your device already sends data, continue with entities and mappings and dashboards.
The navigation and actions available to you in the app depend on your role and workspace permissions. If a page described here is not visible, ask your workspace administrator to check your access.
